Dear Syd,

Enclosed is the first issue of my journal “The Pessimist.” Although the title is indicative of Pessimistic Anarchism, the journal is also meant to be a forum of Individualist Anarchism, Egoism, Existentialism, and Libertarianism in general.

I would greatly appreciate a short comment on, or a longer criticism of, Dr. John Williams’ viewpoint, for inclusion in perhaps the next issue.

As you can see from the enclosed Existentialist Society program, I will be attempting in November to give a talk on Stirner and Egoism. I had asked John Carroll to speak on Stirner, but he refused, saying his present interests lay elsewhere. I have recently read his “Break Out from the Crystal Palace,” as well as Paterson’s book. I am now reading Clark’s critique. I tried to read Marx and Engels’ St. Max, but gave up.

When I tried to buy Paterson’s The Nihilistic Egoist: Max Stirner, I found that it was out of print. Luckily I was able to borrow it. Do you know anyone who has a copy that they may wish to sell?

Yours,
